“Principal’s Message”
Our staff would like to welcome you and your students to Horsefly Elementary Junior Secondary School. Horsefly is a school of excellence where a focus on academics is balanced with opportunities in outdoor education, arts, technology and athletics.
Parental input into school programs creates a diverse selection of opportunities. The Parent Advisory Council (PAC) meets monthly to discuss Parent initiatives that enhance the educational environment of the school. PAC has in the past assisted to many opportunities for each of the classes, purchased school equipment, operated the Farm 2 School program, assisted with Artists in Schools, and hosted many festival events in the school. We also encourage parents to work in conjunction with the staff to develop our school goals regarding Literacy, Numeracy and Social Responsibility. It is the partnership of Parents, Staff and Community that creates a positive learning environment. Should difficulties arise, please do not let problems wait. Let teachers know of any difficulties encountered. Should difficulties continue please let me know and we can work, as a team, to find a positive solution.
We are a community of learners at Horsefly School. We are fortunate to have three classes running again this year supported by enthusiastic staff members. The staff looks forward to working with your families. Horsefly is a small school, thus we can involve students in many activities and closely monitor student progress and attendance. Emphasis is on the development of social, emotional and academic skills for positive interpersonal relationships and for positive student attitudes towards learning. Throughout our school there is an atmosphere of easy friendliness and enthusiasm that reminds students they are welcome and that learning is fun. We enjoyed many new and existing programs and opportunities last year and look forward to continuing and building on providing those experiences for our students this school year.
I am excited to join this amazing learning community in Horsefly, and I am looking forward to an exciting year.
